In Memory
Each of our lives is a little richer for
knowing these individuals.
It's with great honor and respect we pay
tribute to these people no longer part of this world, but still very much
classmates in our hearts.

CommentsAlthough Gary was quite shy I learned that he also had a heart of gold. If you were down in the dumps about something all he had to do was give you that quirky little smile and you had to laugh. Thanks at least for the memories Gary, you left us way to soon.
Name: Mary(Sullivan) Nelson-Class of 72 Tribute To: Joe Sullivan Date: 15 Aug 2006
CommentsHello,
I had seen the article on the reunion in the Ocon paper which I receive in MI. I was not in your class, but my brother Joe Sullivan was. I saw you had him as missing. Joe suffered from Muscular Dystrophy from childhood and I am sure you may remember seeing him in his wheelchair in school.I also had another brother Jim(class of 70) that suffered from this disease. Anyway, Joe passed away in June 1976 just five years out of high school. His brother Jim(class of 70)
passed away in June 1973.
Thanks for your time.

The class of '71 was, as far as I know, the only class to be excused from having to take final exams because of all the losses we suffered in our last year. Sadly, that trend seems to continue.
My personal thanks to:
*John Cross, who taught me how to ride a 2-wheel bike at age 7 and ride the big hill down Lisbon Road;
*Stormin' Norman Bohrman, my zen master ("No matter where you go, there you are");
*Mark Feld, whose cats-eye ring made in Industrial Arts class, given to me at the Senior Picnic -- just because I admired it -- I still have;
*Bob Howell, who sat in front of me in World Civilization class and made peeing in my pants there a regular event -- Mr. Iffland could never hear Bob making cracks under his breath but always caught me laughing;
*Clare Humphrey, a class act of humor and intelligence from 1st grade at St. Jerome through our years as directors of the city's summer playgrounds;
*Lud Kern, the smart, cool, cute guy I was always too shy to approach;
*Bob Kienast, my St. Jerome crush and later almost-brother, who taught me how to waterski, how to drink, and how to be best friends with somebody of the opposite sex in a totally non-threatening way;
*Billy Peterson, who sold me my first set of wheels -- his little metallic blue VW bug (who cares if the engine blew within a year?);
*Linda Pfeiffer, whose curly brown hair I always coveted;
*Jackie Preschler, one of the sweetest girls in the school;
*Dave Stocks -- was there a brighter smile or a nicer guy?
*Anne Wilkinson -- brilliant, quiet, and possessor of a fantastically wry sense of humor.
How can they be gone -- why didn't I spend time getting to better know the rest -- Godspeed.

Dave passed away in July of 2003 at his home in Boise, Idaho. He had been living in the area for many years after having lived in Illinois and California.
John D'Amour and I kept in touch with Dave over the years.
He leaves a daughter Kari, and many friends.

Mike lost his battle with melonoma (skin cancer) 3 years ago on December 9, 2002. He fought hard following diagnosis on January 21, 2002. He went through 2 brain surgeries, infections, radiation therapy, chemo-therapy and last attempt was Gamma-ray without success.
Following graduation, Mike went to University of Wisconsin-Waukesha for 6 months, then decided to enter the Navy as his draft number was low. He served in Vietnam on a ship which refilled tankers for two years-came back home, met me, married and together raised two girls. Mike worked at Silgan Containers(known also Carnation Can) since 1974 becoming a foreman in later years. Mike helped me through nursing school and I helped him fullfill a dream he always had-to learn to fly. He loved flying, he loved the EAA in Oshkosh. Mike was a man with lots of interest-reading, especially of World War II, Vietnam, Civil War, flying, baseball, photography. But there was nothing more important to him but of his "girls."
His two girls have both graduated from College-and he was able to walk his eldest daughter down the aisle at her wedding before he became ill.
Mike was a gentleman, caring and is missed by all who had cross their path in his life.

While I didn't hang in Bob Kienast's regular group of homeys at school, I enjoyed his company a lot since, after all, he was my next door neighbor. (And later on I worked for his dad at Bud's Tamasha.) My particular memory of Bob was the day we decided to go to the foot of Locust in late winter to see if he could smash through the quickly melting ice and aid the "ice break-up" process. Well, amid much laughter and a couple of times falling into the shallow water, we managed to get the icebreaker rowboat about 60 feet out before we gave up. So, my memory of Bob is his great smile, great sense of humor, and much loved by his classmates.

John Cross passed away about 4 years ago. It was a long illness and he fought valiantly. Jim Goeman and I were fortunate to be able to visit John (he was living in GA), a few short months before he left us. John was a close friend. He loved to travel and always seemed to make friends easily. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help a friend in need. I miss him greatly.
