Dave
Ferris, Assistant Manager of the Oconomowoc American Legion Band,
and member in good standing of the Oconomowoc High School Class of
'71 (well, member in DECENT standing at least), has issued a
challenge to all class members.
Ferris'
challenge was blunt and to the point: Prove to us that 35 years
hasn't diminished your exceptional musical skills!
With
class members gathering for the OHS Class of '71 Reunion (being held
August 12th at Roosevelt Field), Ferris is challenging
anyone so inclined to join the OAL Band for the "Parade of Lights"
concert being held on Sunday, August 13th. "Sit down
with us that evening and show us what you've got!" Ferris
proclaimed.
OHS
Class of '71 spokesperson Jim Gilboy, while recognizing the
intensity of this challenge, felt class members would rise to the
occasion. "Members of the OHS Class of '71 have never backed away
from any challenge," responded Gilboy. "I, for one, clearly recall
the fall of 1970 when a national tissue shortage threatened the
completion of homeroom 213's homecoming float. Class members dug
into their reserves and showed up at the warehouse, completing the
float within hours of parade time."
"Because
we dug into our reserves, many fewer homes in Oconomowoc were TP'd
that fall," stated Gilboy, "but the parade went on!"
"Oh, and
by the way," Gilboy added, "we're still looking for class
members."
